More riots in our future?
How Cooperation Hull will keep working for a better world in 2025
Though for some of our communities a Labour government might bring temporary relief, the global collapse of our economy, our weather and our food supply is going to continue for the rest of this decade. Immigration is going to keep increasing. More billionaires, more hungry people, more fear. More people looking for alternatives to the current broken systems. More reasons to turn on each other and more opportunities for power-hungry fascists to lead us to disaster.
This path is laid out for us. We could keep doing what we’ve always done, keep fighting in the ways we always have, and just walk it. Or we can decide to take another path; one less obvious, but full of possibility.
In 2025, how will we build a truly mass movement of ordinary people from all walks of life? How are we going to care for everyone, from the most marginalised and hated in society, to those who seem most full of hate? What does it actually mean to be hard on systems, but soft on people?
In Cooperation Hull we know that democracy isn’t just for people we agree with and tolerance isn’t a one way street. We are building a broad and democratic movement - of people who can disagree and still work together. And we have a duty to marginalised people to not create spaces that exclude them. This will not be an easy path to walk, but for us it is the only one worth taking.
In 2025, we’ll be working on a clearer strategy to bring opposing voices together. We will build bridges with migrant communities and with people who want to stop the boats. We will not accept violence or the threat of violence in our communities. We will get clear on what we mean by terms like ‘racist’, ‘fascist’, and ‘far right’. And we will be sharing our 10 Principles and Values, a new compass to guide us through a time full of contradictions.
In 2025 we’ll be focusing on the task at hand. Equipping ourselves with the tools we need to build a fairer, more cooperative, post-capitalist world. And creating opportunities in our neighbourhoods where people who ‘should’ hate each other find themselves working shoulder to shoulder with a shared purpose.
We all need purpose. We all need meaning. We all need connection and dignity and to be heard and for all of this we fucking need each other.
The revolution starts in Hull.
Here now,
then everywhere.
